HARPERS BAZAAR - RUSSIA

Babuino 181 is ideally located in the heart of Rome, just a few minutes walk from the Spanish Steps, the most expensive boutiques on Via Condotti, Piazza del Popolo and Piazza Navona, Villa Borghese, the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, St. Peter's Cathedral and Vatican.

The area was founded in the 1600s, when artists based on Via Margutta began their expansion up to Via Babuino, forming small communes and opening many shops and boutiques. Antonio Canova, famous neoclassical sculptor, a century later owned his studio there (and a small cafe in the bargain).

Today various galleries and fashion boutiques are located on Via Babuino. In addition, the street is famous for its own unique location. It connects two of the most famous and beautiful areas of Rome: Spanish Steps and the Piazza del Popolo, thus turning into one of the main arteries of Eternal City. Two palazzos, restored and united in Babuino 181, reflect the modern Italian style - the one that you expect to see on this magnificent Roman street.

If you're wondering how Via Babuino got its name, you should go to the church of St. Atanasio degli Greci. Here you will see the statue, donated to the church in 1581 by a wealthy merchant. The Romans found the statue so terrible that they began to compare it with a baboon. Later, the locals began to attach different notes and satirical pictures to the statue, turning Il Babuino (as it was called) to one of the so-called "talking" statues. However, in recent years it is keeping silence, but still remains a vivid reminder of how Rome looked like a few hundred years ago.

Babuino 181 offers accommodation in two charming historic mansions: 24 stylish and cozy rooms with spacious marble bathrooms and separate shower and bath, as well as king size beds with Frette linens.
